Johnson County to KCMO Commuter Convoy

I'm going to be taking my bike a lot more often, and so I'm working with the KC Bike Commuters Group (put together by Eric from to find people interested in a regular bike commute convoy. There are a lot of people who live in Johnson County but work downtown. There are also a lot of people who live in Johnson County that own bikes.

After talking to some cyclists, it seems like the biggest thing holding them back from commuting on their bike is fear of getting hit. Some of these people have no problem going on group rides, though. Why not organize a group ride with the goal of getting somewhere?

I'm not planning on seeing a lot of people participating yet, but it would be nice to have one or two other cyclists to ride with. It would be an awesome sight to behold if we could get 10 people together, like a train of bicycles heading downtown every morning. That will come later. If you want to join in the fun, e-mail me with the contact form on the right side of my Blog, or better yet, join the KC Bike Commuters Group and participate in the discussions already going on.

Interesting idea. I'd rather be solo unless there were wide lanes, but it would be fun to ride with others sometimes. Report back on the group idea if it happens.

I like solo, too. There have been two times (once work-bound, the other home-bound) where I've spent more than a mile riding with someone else. It made the time pass by a little quicker, but there wasn't much talking. God knows I've done the full trip quite a few times on my own and it's a nice ride.

This started out on a mailing list a while back ago, where someone wanted another person to help them with a good route to downtown.

Now that I'm ditching the bus, I think it'd be cool and fun to help others gain the road confidence that it takes to make the ride. After they ride with me a few times, I'm sure they'll be ready to wing it alone.

Also, I will be adjusting to my newfound bus freedom AND my wife's new work schedule. There may be quite a bit of flux in my departure time and riding effort as I sort all the variables out.
