I'm still not quite used to the look. I am ecstatic about the durability of the wheel itself, though.
I found out that this wheelset is somewhat popular for cyclocross (and even comes on at least one decent 'cross bike from the factory) so I suppose I should finally quit cringing with every single seam in the pavement.
Yeah, the new generation wheels take some getting used to. I was just getting comfortable with 32 spokes when the manufacturers started down this road of even fewer aero spokes and delta shaped rims.

ReplyDeleteI found factory wheels adequate until I started pulling a bikes at work trailer with its 300# load limit.
Spokes were going off like firecrackers until I finally had the worlds heaviest bicycle wheel hand built for me!
Kyseriums are some of the few Mavic rims that don't have a weight limit, too. I'm certainly interested to hear your long-term experiences with the wheels...and I do admit that they look funny juxtaposed against fenders and a rack. But, this ain't a fashion show, right? We use what works, no matter how "strange" it may appear.
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome they're holding up well, man --- solid, solid wheels... I'm actually "sad" that I'm running the generator hub up front (especially considering hte advancements in LED *battery* lights lately) because I tihnk my steed would benefit from a little aero and lighter weight.... but not TOO light.
